Heavy watch that is OK at 70% Discount August 16, 2010 Mr. Ian Blyth (Wokingham, UK) This watch is a mechanical watch. If you want accuracy then buy a quartz watch as these watches will never be that accurate. You can get some that are accurate but it is not guaranteed although you can regulate them. The beauty of a mechanical watch is that is 100% mechanical and made by hand. The movement of your wrist moves the rotor which winds the watch so it never needs a battery.
This watch is one of the biggest and heaviest that I have. Even though it says titanium plate there is no evidence of that but titanium would have helped keep the weight down. This is not a watch for someone with small wrists. Mine are 7.5" and I just get away with it.
I would not pay the RRP for this watch. There are many better watches for that price but at 70% off it is a good buy. The good points are that the bracelet is very well made and looks good. The hands are big and modern (almost art deco) and so are easy to read with a nice simple dial. The yellow second hand is very good. One of the nice things about an automatic is that the second hand appears to glide around rather than tick every second like a quartz watch.
The bad points is that it is a bit on the heavy and large size. It says it is titanium plated but just looks like brushed stainless steel. The dial colour is supposed to be black but mine looks brown (which I don't mind as it goes with the watch quite well). The back has 1895 cut into it which is an exhibition back to show the rotor. It just manages to do that. It does not add any value and looks like it could be a dirt collector. The crown is quite small and is hard to unscrew to change the settings as the back plate juts out.
They say that it will be covered by a lifetime guarantee as long as it is serviced every three years. A mechanical does not need to be serviced that frequently and so will last a lifetime as long as you don't mind paying a subscription to own the watch every three years. This would be worth it for an expensive watch buy not one that costs so little.
Overall a good watch at the 70% discount but I am not sure that I would pay more than that for it. It is heavy but looks nice.
Great Value, Get Characture August 13, 2010 MickieP So what if the watch is not keeping 100% time, my Rolex took time to get right. It is what I expect from a traditional non battery time piece. It's clonky at first, mainly because of the 14mm deep, 44mm wide body, but I love it. I have got used to the feel on the wrist, it is not for everyone but if you have large wrists, want individual characture,a lifetime warranty and do not mind being a bit fast - 10 seconds per day - (you will not be late!), go for it. It still makes me smile looking at it. Or is it that I am old enough now not to worry about the exact time. P.S Service from Amazon brilliant - again
Rotary watch April 25, 2010 Mr. John Blair 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Watch was the most expensive i've bought so was disappointed that it loses approx 1 minute a day. It is also very heavy. Wish i'd never bought it.
Stunning Watch - Great Price March 2, 2010 Hawklou (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Stunning Watch. Shame the box was broken. This was not due to postage, but simply the glue was dry and the box had come away. Easy fix!
Rubbish timekeeping February 19, 2010 W. Hodge (London) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The watch looks great, but any watch that gains 1 minute every day is not worth having. After a week I might as well guess the time. I've given it nearly a month to settle down, but with the Amazon 30 day refund looming I've decided to send it back. I thought I'd give it another go and ordered a replacement but Amazon don't want to do that. Maybe they are fed up with giving refunds? Maybe you will be lucky, but I won't be paying to have the strap adjusted so quickly on the next watch I buy.
